Explain SR22 insurance

Q: Can you explain SR22 insurance in terms of how it will affect my ability to move or drive out of state?

A: Well, when it concerns driving out of state, I can explain SR22 insurance pretty easily: it’s no different from any other kind of car insurance policy. When you drive from one state to the next, then if the next state has higher liability limits than Texas, your limits will automatically adjust, since you are covered all over the USA as well as in Canada. Your SR22 insurance won’t make any difference here.

However, when you move to a different state, trying to explain SR22 insurance gets a little more complex. You will have to find a car insurance company which is willing to file an SR22 form with your DPS here in Texas because moving to another state, even if you get a license in another state, does not release you from the requirements of your SR22. You are required to continue to file your SR22 until you have finished your suspension period of two years.
